Building Strong Bones Through Nutrition

By YBQRPC | Nutrition & Health

Bone Health Basics

Your bones are living tissue that constantly rebuilds themselves. Until your mid-20s, you're building more bone than you lose. After that, the balance shifts. What you eat affects this balance throughout life.

Calcium and vitamin D are the most important nutrients for bone health. But many other nutrients play roles too. Magnesium, vitamin K, and protein all contribute to bone strength.

Calcium Sources

Dairy products are the most readily absorbed calcium sources. But you can also get calcium from leafy greens, fortified foods, and supplements if needed.

Vitamin D helps your body absorb calcium. Many people, especially in northern climates, are deficient in vitamin D. This affects calcium absorption regardless of how much calcium you eat.

Building Bone At Every Age

Children and teenagers are building bone density that will last their whole lives. Adequate nutrition during these years is crucial. But it's never too late to support bone health.

Weight-bearing exercise like walking, running, and strength training also builds bone. Combine exercise with good nutrition for best results.
