Understanding Vitamins Simply

By YBQRPC | Nutrition & Health

What Are Vitamins

Vitamins are organic compounds your body needs in small amounts. Each vitamin has specific functions. Getting enough of each is essential for health.

There are13 essential vitamins. They divide into fat-soluble (A, D, E, K) and water-soluble (C and B vitamins) categories.

Fat-Soluble Vitamins

These vitamins dissolve in fat and can be stored in body fat. You don't need them every day. Vitamin A supports vision and immune function. Vitamin D helps absorb calcium.

Vitamin K is crucial for blood clotting. Vitamin E acts as an antioxidant protecting cells. Too much of these can cause problems.

Water-Soluble Vitamins

These dissolve in water and aren't stored significantly. You need regular intake. Vitamin C supports immune function and helps absorb iron. B vitamins help convert food to energy.

Getting Vitamins From Food

Whole foods provide vitamins in forms your body absorbs best. Supplements can help when diet isn't enough, but food is always preferable.
